Dell XPS M1310 Review

Dell are one of the few mass produced PC’s that I actually like, for a start they look fashionable and they normally work pretty well! The XPS M1310 is a relatively new laptop computer from dell, and this is no different.

For a start most laptops come in one color and one color only. Normally that color is black, although sometimes they have a hint of silver! The XPS M1310 is different; you can actually order it in different colors. The XPS is available in:
-Tuxedo Black
-Crimson Red
-Pearl White

DELL XPS M1310

Any other computer manufacturer may be tempted to say it comes in black, red or white, but that’s just not good enough for dell! You can tell just how classy this machine is by looking at the names of the colors.

Specs
If you’re still reading then you probably want to know about the specs, in which case here they are!
- Intel Core2 Duo 1.5GHz – 2.2Ghz (depending on model
- Up to 4GB DDR2 Memory
- Integrated Intel Graphics (X3100) or NVIDA GeForce Go 8400M GS (depending on machine)
- Weight – around 1.8 kg
- Width – 32cm
- Depth – 24cm

When buying a computer most people overlook how many ports there are available. Personally I think this is a huge mistake, so here is a list of the connectors:
- 2 x USB 2
- 1 x Firewire
- 1 x Ethernet (RJ45)
- 1 x VGA out
- 1 x HDMI out
- PCMICA card slot
- Memory card reader
- Headphone out
- Speaker out
- Mic in

The Dell is a very capable machine, not only can you connect it up to your HD TV effortlessly but you can also view the pictures on your cameras memory card without having to plug your camera in!

Things to watch out for
There are of course some things that you should be careful about when buying the XPS M1310. As standard the laptop comes with a pretty impressive 2MegaPixel webcam, however if you have the LED backlight then you will have a 0.3Megapixel camera.

The maximum standard hard drive capacity for this machine is 200GB, and the maximum speed is 7200RPM which may be slow by today’s standards. You can opt for a solid state hard disk up to 32GB, which is a very interesting option.

The XPS M1310 is a true multimedia machine it has a handy remote control hidden away in the expansion card slot which is capable of controlling the computers media centre features. If graphics are important to you then you should defiantly opt for the models with memory cards that have dedicated memory rather than the basic shared memory graphics controllers.

Conclusion
The Dell XPS M1310 is a very capable machine, on top of everything it’s a great media PC and it’s very fashionable! The only thing I’m cautious about is how it will wear, but I’m sure that’s a minor consideration.
