DiGi iPhone Plans

Looks like Maxis is no longer the only distributor/provider of iPhone in Malaysia since the 1st of April 2010. Digi launched its iPhone plans on April Fool’s day. The plans will only be available to customers who pre-ordered and according to Digi, they received about 10,000 pre-orders. Customers who did not pre-order will be able to sign up for the iPhone at a later date.

There really are not much differences between Digi and Maxis’ iPhone plans. All of Digi’s iPhone plans comes with a 24 months contract while Maxis offers 12 months contract in addition to its 24 months contract.

Digi’s plan starts from RM88 while Maxis’ plan starts from RM100. The major difference with these two plans is that Digi offers 1GB of data and you will not be charged if you exceed the quota (it can be assumed your speed will be throttled though) while Maxis only offers 500mb of data. Digi offer 200 sms and 20 MMS to any networks in Malaysia while Maxis’ free SMS and MMS are only to numbers in their own network.

Maxis has responded to DiGI’s plans by offering a RM200 deduction when you sign up for any of their iPhone plans.

If you do not wish to be tied up to long-term contracts, you can get the iPhone without contract from Maxis. The iPhone prices without contract are as following :

iPhone 3GS 32GB - RM 2990
iPhone 3GS 16GB - RM 2490
iPhone 3G 8GB - RM1990

You will get free 500mb data monthly for 12 months if you are on Maxis’ prepaid (Hotlink).
